Meet Meera Bhanot, founder of The Indian Funeral Company

The Indian Funeral Company was founded by Meera Bhanot on a vision of community and cultural preservation. Fluent in English, Hindi and Punjabi and raised within Hindu culture, she has cared for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain families across Birmingham and the West Midlands for more than a decade — with compassion, cultural understanding and clear, honest pricing.

Founded on a vision of cultural preservation

The Indian Funeral Company began with Meera Bhanot’s belief that every South-Asian family deserves a funeral carried out exactly as their faith and traditions ask — without compromise, and without being left to navigate an unfamiliar system alone. Inspired by that vision, she has embraced this work not as a business but as a dedication to upholding the traditions that are the cornerstone of our community.

For more than a decade, that founding purpose has guided everything the company does. When a parent or grandparent passes, many British Asian families feel caught between two worlds — wanting the funeral done properly, in line with faith and tradition, while navigating unfamiliar paperwork and services in the UK. Meera built The Indian Funeral Company to carry that weight, so families are free to grieve, remember and be together.

Raised within Hindu culture, Meera brings an intrinsic, first-hand understanding of Hindu and Sikh traditions to every family she serves. Her cultural fluency is not something learned from a manual — it comes from a lifetime within the community she now cares for, and it is the reason families across the West Midlands turn to her at their most difficult moment.

She leads the company with warmth, patience and deep respect for tradition. Families trust her because she listens first, explains clearly, and makes sure every rite is carried out the way it should be — without pressure and without judgement.

Speaking English, Hindi and Punjabi, Meera bridges generations: guiding grandparents who want tradition honoured, and second- and third-generation families who need everything explained simply and honestly. She is passionate about keeping South-Asian funeral traditions alive for the generations to come.

What Meera personally ensures for every family

Behind every arrangement is a founder’s promise. These are the things Meera makes certain of, whoever the family and whatever the faith:

  • Your rites are followed correctly — Hindu antim sanskar, Sikh antam sanskar, and Buddhist and Jain traditions, each to its own cultural norms.
  • You are understood in your own language, in English, Hindi or Punjabi, so nothing is lost in translation at the moment it matters most.
  • Someone who understands your traditions is reachable at any hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Arrangements are made where your family is most comfortable — in your own home or at one of our funeral homes.
  • Same-sex funeral professionals can tend to your loved one where your tradition calls for it.
  • You always know what happens next and what it costs, with pricing published in full and in plain language.
